Feeling the Squeeze
About a new short story.
For various reasons I’ve never stopped organising my life around the academic calendar, and so I associate September with fresh starts rather than January. September is a much better time for it anyway, rather than trying to summon optimism at what is, in the UK at least, the darkest, coldest month of the year. So as usual, I’m coming up with ambitious plans for how I’ll change my working patterns and get more done in less time, leaving me free to read more, go outside occasionally etc. I’m sure this will be the year it actually works.
The main point of this post, which I’m aware is the first one in ages, is to let you know I have a short story in issue #60 of the excellent Uncanny Magazine. You can buy the whole magazine now, but my story is one of the parts they’ve already put on their site for free, and a reading of it features in their podcast. It’s called The 6% Squeeze and it’s a contemporary horror story about a graphic designer working for terrible clients. The podcast version also has an interview with me. You can buy the issue on Kindle too, if you prefer.
There will be more to announce at some point, but I’ve no idea when. Sorry.

Horror isn't really my thing, but I'd like to read this to be supportive so - how horror-y is it? More psychological horror than graphic horror, or the other way around?
